India Emerges as Global Smartphone Export Powerhouse with 8% Growth in 2025, Topping Export Categories for the First Time

India’s smartphone exports surged by 8% in 2025, reaching 28 trillion rupees and making smartphones the country’s top export category for the first time. Driven by Bhagwati Products Limited, global brands, and the Production Linked Incentive scheme, India is emerging as a major global electronics manufacturing hub.

India has recorded a significant milestone in its manufacturing and export landscape, with domestically produced smartphones not only dominating the domestic market but also achieving strong global demand. According to recent reports, India registered an 8 percent growth in smartphone exports in 2025, resulting in exports valued at 28 trillion rupees. This performance reflects a structural shift in India’s industrial and technological capabilities, positioning the country as a rising global hub for electronics manufacturing.

For the first time in history, smartphones have emerged as India’s number one export category, surpassing traditional industries. Industry data indicates that nearly one in every four smartphones sold globally is now manufactured in India and exported to international markets. This unprecedented achievement highlights the rapid expansion of India’s electronics manufacturing ecosystem and its increasing integration into global supply chains.

A major contributor to this growth is Bhagwati Products Limited, a company that originally manufactured phones for Micromax Informatics. The company has now transformed its business model and operates as an Electronics Manufacturing Services provider. It has become one of India’s top five export-oriented companies in the sector. Bhagwati Products Limited currently manufactures devices in India for major global brands including Vivo, Oppo, and Realme, all of which operate at high production volumes. This strategic positioning has strengthened India’s role in global smartphone production.

Government policy has also played a critical role in accelerating this growth. The Production Linked Incentive scheme has significantly boosted local manufacturing and export capacity by offering financial incentives to companies that expand production within India and strengthen export performance. The scheme has been instrumental in attracting large-scale investments in the electronics sector.

Global technology giants such as Apple Inc. and Samsung Electronics have also contributed to India’s rising export figures by expanding their manufacturing base in the country.
